Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel will open gamescom, the world’s largest event for computer and video games, for the first time on Tuesday, 22 August 2017 in Cologne. This was announced today jointly by Koelnmesse, organiser of gamescom, and the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU) as gamescom sponsor.
Canada is the official partner country of gamescom 2017 (22 to 26 August). Koelnmesse GmbH and the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU) have won one of the world’s leading developer locations for computer and video games for gamescom 2017. As gamescom’s official Partner Country, Canada represents the international exhibitor community in Cologne from 22 to 26 August at the world’s largest event for computer and video games. Exhibit space, along with numerous business services, networking events and promotional opportunities will be available to Canadian companies – under the umbrella of Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service. A special Canadian Pavilion will be organized by the Government of Canada, through the Consulate of Canada in Munich, in collaboration with other provincial and industry partners.
gamescom is the global 360 degree event for digital gaming culture and the absolute highlight of the year for all gamers. Already in 2016, more than a half a million people celebrated together in Cologne. Reason enough for gamescom 2017 (Tuesday, 22 August, to Saturday, 26 August 2017) to become even more lively – with a new presence that focuses on the passion of the fans who make gamescom the largest trade fair and event highlight for digital games: “The Heart of Gaming”.
The early bird action of gamescom 2017 (22 to 26 August, new day sequence from Tuesday to Saturday) ended on 22 February with a very good result: around 70 percent of the planned space is already booked. Even now it is already clear that games fans from around the world can once again look forward to a diversity of exhibitors at the world’s largest event for computer and video games. In addition to many of the world’s biggest developers and publishers, hardware manufacturers, eSports companies and the Indie Arena Booth with many independent developers have already booked their space. gamescom is also continuing its successful course with a view to internationality: exhibitors from 38 countries will be represented from 22 to 26 August in Cologne. That corresponds to a 12 percent increase compared to the same point in time in the previous year. With this strong first registration phase, gamescom 2017 is once again impressively underlining its position as Europe’s leading international business and new product platform of the computer and video games industry.
The sweet anticipation for the world’s largest event for computers and video games is unabated: The online Ticket Shop of gamescom opened yesterday, on 8 March 2017, and more than 42,000 tickets had been sold after just 24 hours!
gamescom 2016 is now a good six months back. Time to go through the vacation photos and revel in the memories! About 345,000 visitors from 97 countries, including 30,500 trade visitors, and 877 companies from 54 countries, made gamescom 2016 the world’s biggest event for computer and video games. Games, music, street food and entertainment: Once more, the gamescom city festival 2016 from August 19 to 21 offers Cologne citizens and gamescom guests from all over the world an attractive programme in the heart of the city Cologne. On four stages at Hohenzollernring, Neumarkt, Rudolfplatz and for the first time at the space at the Apostelnkloster, national and international artists will perform and offer musical entertainment of the highest level. The gamescom city festival, which is free, is not only for music fans: A Street Food Market, gaming stations for kids and the participation of more cooperation partners offer great entertainment.
Hundreds of new premieres and blockbuster titles for consoles and PC, as well as new online and mobile games await you to get discovered. And if that isn’t enough, then gamescom also has quite a lot to offer besides the spectacular game presentations of the more than 800 exhibitors: a full supporting programme that will round off your ultimate gamescom experience.
In a few weeks, the time will have come around again: From 17 to 21 August, the world’s largest event for computer and video games, gamescom, will take place. And the signs for a successful gamescom 2016 couldn’t be better: More than 800 companies from the computer and video games industry will present their new products in Cologne from 17 August onwards. With exhibitors from around 50 countries, gamescom 2016 is already more international than ever before now and further applications are being received every day.
