Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel will open gamescom, the world’s largest event for computer and video games, for the first time on Tuesday, 22 August 2017 in Cologne. This was announced today jointly by Koelnmesse, organiser of gamescom, and the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU) as gamescom sponsor.
Canada is the official partner country of gamescom 2017 (22 to 26 August). Koelnmesse GmbH and the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU) have won one of the world’s leading developer locations for computer and video games for gamescom 2017. As gamescom’s official Partner Country, Canada represents the international exhibitor community in Cologne from 22 to 26 August at the world’s largest event for computer and video games. Exhibit space, along with numerous business services, networking events and promotional opportunities will be available to Canadian companies – under the umbrella of Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service. A special Canadian Pavilion will be organized by the Government of Canada, through the Consulate of Canada in Munich, in collaboration with other provincial and industry partners.
The early bird action of gamescom 2017 (22 to 26 August, new day sequence from Tuesday to Saturday) ended on 22 February with a very good result: around 70 percent of the planned space is already booked. Even now it is already clear that games fans from around the world can once again look forward to a diversity of exhibitors at the world’s largest event for computer and video games. In addition to many of the world’s biggest developers and publishers, hardware manufacturers, eSports companies and the Indie Arena Booth with many independent developers have already booked their space. gamescom is also continuing its successful course with a view to internationality: exhibitors from 38 countries will be represented from 22 to 26 August in Cologne. That corresponds to a 12 percent increase compared to the same point in time in the previous year. With this strong first registration phase, gamescom 2017 is once again impressively underlining its position as Europe’s leading international business and new product platform of the computer and video games industry.
